Adopting a Dog



Have you ever considered adopting a dog? So you've decided to get a puppy or a dog, but aren't sure where to get it or what breed. Where do you even start? What do you do? This article will explain why adoption is such a great option for both you and the lucky dog you adopt.

If you buy a purebred from a breeder it will be costly. Plus, you will have to spend a lot of time researching a breeder and many times they're in a different part of the country so you either have to drive far or have the dog flown to you which costs even more.

You can also buy from a pet store, but many pet stores get dogs and cats that aren't purebred yet try to sell them for hundreds of dollars. There isn't anything wrong with buying from a pet store, but make sure it's a reputable one and ask where the pets come from. You don't want to pay a lot of money for a puppy that may have health problems.

Where can you adopt a dog? From your local SPCA or other animal rescue shelters. Many of these dogs are abandoned by owners who didn't want to take the time to properly care or train them also people that are moving somewhere that doesn't allow pet sometimes take their dogs to shelters.

Adopting a dog means that you are saving that pet's life. If pets aren't adopted they are euthanized. Shelters are a great place to get a dog because they will be spayed or neutered and sometimes even vaccinated. If an animal is unhealthy or has behavioral issues such as biting, they won't allow you to adopt them. Volunteers or employees at shelters will even help you decide which dog best fits your situation. For example, if you have a child, they will tell you what dogs are friendly and would make a great addition to your family.

Most shelters where you can adopt dogs charge you only a small fee. Many rescue dogs are very loving and loyal pets that are grateful for a second chance.
