How To Find the Right Breeder

Let's discuss how to find the right breeder. After spending hours researching, discussing and deciding which breed of dog you want to get for your family it is now time to find a breeder. There are plenty of breeders, but the hard part is finding the one you want to get your dog from. This article will explain how you can decide on a breeder.

First, you need to know how many breeders there are that have the breed of dog that you want. Simply make a list of breeders. If you don't mind driving far or having a dog shipped then you can probably find a lot of breeders from all over the United States. If you want to find a breeder closer to you because you are uncomfortable with having a dog shipped then your list will be shorter.

Once you have a list you will need to do more research this time about the individual breeders. Ask friends and family members if they have heard anything about any of the breeders on your list. Look at the breeders' websites. You should also look online for breeder reviews. If a breeder has negative reviews then cross them off your list. If you're having a difficult time finding reviews then try calling veterinarians or dog societies and ask their opinions on good breeders of the specific breed you are looking for.

The next step is to make a list of questions for breeders and start contacting them. You can call or e-mail breeders. Ask them lots of questions to make sure they are reputable and licensed. You should be able to ask as many questions as you want. You are the one that will end up with the dog. If you don't like any of the responses you are getting then cross the breeder off your list.

When there is a breeder that has good reviews and gives you good answers to all your questions, you can go from there.
