If your ferret is moving and you accidently cut their nails too short it will be painful and there will be a lot of blood. If you need help securing your ferret and keeping them calm then enlist the help of a friend or family member.

You can use either human or cat nail clippers to trim a ferret's nails. Before you start cutting look for the pinkish area on the nail. You do not want to cut past that line, that is too short. Try to cut your ferrets nails quickly, but very carefully. If your ferret wakes up or isn't cooperating then just let it go and try again later.

If your ferret is scratching its ears or if you notice they are dirty then you need to clean them. Having an ear full of dirt and wax can't be comfortable. Plus, ferrets can get ear infections and ear mites so cleaning your pet's ears can't hurt, as long as you do it properly.

You will need cotton swabs and ear cleaning solution. Water can also work. Securely hold your ferret and make sure it isn't feeling frisky and moving around a lot. You need to be careful, because if you put the cotton swab into your ferret's ear canal it can cause damage to its ear drum. Dip the cotton swab into the cleaning solution or water and carefully and gently clean out your ferrets ear. Do this until the ear is clean, using as many cotton swabs as needed. Next, use a dry cotton swab to get rid of any moisture in the ear. Repeat in the other ear and then you're done.
