Is your dog coughing like it can not stop? Does your pet wake you up with a loud dry cough that sounds like whooping cough or a barking seal?

You probably need a kennel cough remedy. How do you know if your dog has kennel cough?

If your dog has recently been to or in a dog show, been boarded or visited an area where there were a lot of dogs (dog exercise park, farm, etc.) in the last week or so and has a loud, dry, hacking sounding cough then they probably have kennel cough.

Do not be alarmed as it is common knowledge that while kennel cough is rather inconvenient due to the noise and discomfort your pet will have it is not a serious disease unless it progresses and develops into pneumonia.

Keep close watch on your pet’s behavior (activity levels, sleep cycle, etc.) as well as if there are any changes in their eating habits.

In most kennel cough cases the condition will run its course in ten to fourteen days without any treatment. You can help your pet to feel better during that time by using a kennel cough remedy or two.

There are a number of homeopathic remedies, several natural remedies and some things you can do physically for your dog that will help alleviate the symptoms.

The best one that I can remember is also what we used to do for our daughter when she had whooping cough.

We would take her in the bathroom and turn the shower on as hot as it could go and let the room fill with steam. Breathing the hot moist air helped the dry air ways and would relieve the constant coughing that would shake her little body.

Bring your pet in with you and do the same. Once you are done make sure you towel your pet off and keep them warm as well.

Another kennel cough remedy is to use natural substances to help the inflammation in the mouth, throat and airways.

Raw honey has long been touted as a natural remedy for a variety of illnesses due to its great germ fighting properties and antioxidants.

You must make sure that you are using raw honey not processed honey that is in the little bear jars. Processing kills all the natural germ fighting bacteria.

Processed honey is merely liquid sugar with none of the health benefits.
