So, how can you get rid of the lingering odor? There are various products that you can use to get rid of the smell. Ask your veterinarian for their recommendations. You can also ask employees at your local pet store. Ask friends that have cats or you can also do research online. You may be able to find a product specially made to eliminate cat urine odor. Usually products that contain enzymes work the best to get rid of the odor.

If your cat urinates on carpet first try to soak up the urine with a sponge or paper towels. Don't rub or the urine actually goes deeper into the carpet. Then put a mix of water and vinegar on the area. When this area of carpet has dried put a little baking soda on it, then use some type of brush and rub in hydrogen peroxide that has been mixed with a small amount of dish soap. This may seem like a long process, but it helps eliminate the smell.

If your cat urinates on a surface that is not carpet, first clean up the urine with a mop or paper towels. Then clean the area with soap or some type of home cleaning product such as a spray. You may also want to rinse the area with water and then once again repeat the cleaning process. Cat urine is a tough odor to totally eliminate so this type of cleaning is unfortunately required.

Some cats will even urinate on bedding or a pile of clothes. You definitely don't want an odor on your clothing or bed sheets. To eliminate the odor put cider vinegar in with your detergent when you put the items into your washer. A quarter of a cup of the vinegar should work.
